360° Rotation Mini Electric Winch for Marine Sampling and Underwater Sensor Deployment
Introduction

Marine and environmental monitoring projects often require instruments to be repeatedly deployed into and recovered from the water. Water quality sondes, underwater sensors, and sampling equipment may need to be lowered to specific depths and safely retrieved after measurements are completed.

Manual deployment can be physically demanding and may reduce operational efficiency, particularly when equipment needs to be handled repeatedly during field surveys.

The Frankstar 360 Degree Rotation Mini Electric Winch is a compact marine lifting and deployment system designed for underwater sensor deployment, water quality monitoring, marine sampling, and oceanographic field operations.

Its 360° rotating lifting arm provides flexible positioning on a vessel or monitoring platform, while the motorized winch reduces manual effort during equipment deployment and recovery.

What Is a Marine Electric Winch?

A marine electric winch is a powered lifting and cable management system designed to deploy, recover, or position equipment in marine and aquatic environments.

In environmental and oceanographic applications, a winch can be used to handle equipment such as:

Water quality sensors
CTD instruments
Water sampling equipment
Underwater monitoring sensors
Environmental sampling devices

Compared with manually handling heavy equipment and cables, an electric winch provides controlled deployment and recovery, helping improve field-work efficiency and operational safety.

What Is a 360° Rotation Mini Electric Winch?

The Frankstar 360° Rotation Mini Electric Winch combines a motorized winch with a rotating lifting arm.

The lifting arm can rotate through 360 degrees, allowing operators to move the suspended equipment between different positions around the installation point.

The system is particularly useful for shipboard operations where space can be limited and equipment needs to be moved between the deck and the water.

According to Frankstar’s published specifications, the winch has a 100 kg rated working load, a 1000–1500 mm telescopic lifting arm, and supports φ6 mm wire rope with a maximum length of 100 m.

Key Features of Frankstar Mini Electric Winch
1. 360° Rotating Lifting Arm

The lifting arm provides full 360° rotation, giving operators greater flexibility when positioning underwater equipment.

This allows the winch to support different deployment positions without requiring the entire system to be repositioned.

The rotating structure is especially useful for:

Shipboard sampling
Deck-mounted monitoring systems
Water quality surveys
Underwater sensor deployment

2. 100 kg Rated Working Load

The winch has a 100 kg rated working load, making it suitable for a range of marine monitoring and sampling equipment.

It can be used to deploy and recover instruments such as water quality sondes and other underwater monitoring equipment, depending on the specific system configuration and operating conditions.

3. 100 m Wire Rope Capacity

The system supports φ6 mm stainless steel wire rope with a length of up to 100 m.

This provides sufficient cable length for many water sampling and underwater monitoring operations while allowing the operator to monitor cable deployment during field work.

4. Telescopic Lifting Arm

The lifting arm has a telescopic range of 1000–1500 mm, providing additional flexibility when positioning instruments over the side of a vessel or monitoring platform.

The adjustable arm can help adapt the equipment to different deck layouts and deployment conditions.

5. Motorized Deployment and Recovery

The system uses a 220 V AC motor and incorporates a motor holding brake and gear reducer.

Motorized operation reduces the physical workload associated with repeatedly deploying and retrieving underwater instruments.

6. Controlled Free Lowering

The winch includes a manual clutch and band brake system.

When the clutch is disengaged, the equipment can be lowered through the free-payout function, while the band brake can be used to control the lowering speed.

This can help improve deployment efficiency while maintaining control of the suspended equipment.

7. Real-Time Cable Length Measurement

An integrated cable counter allows operators to monitor the amount of cable deployed or retrieved.

Knowing the approximate deployed cable length can be useful when positioning underwater sensors at specific depths during marine surveys.

8. Corrosion-Resistant Components

Marine equipment is frequently exposed to moisture and saltwater environments.

The winch is designed with corrosion-resistant components and uses 316 stainless steel non-rotating wire rope, helping support reliable operation in marine field applications.

How Does the Mini Electric Winch Work?

The operating process can be divided into several stages.

Step 1: Position the Lifting Arm

The lifting arm is rotated toward the desired deployment position.

Step 2: Connect the Equipment

The underwater sensor, water sampler, or other monitoring equipment is connected to the wire rope.

Step 3: Lower the Equipment

The operator can use the winch’s motorized operation or controlled free-payout function to lower the equipment into the water.

Step 4: Deploy to the Required Depth

The cable counter helps the operator monitor the amount of cable deployed.

Step 5: Recover the Equipment

After the measurement or sampling operation is completed, the motorized winch retrieves the equipment and returns it to the deck.

This workflow can simplify repeated underwater equipment deployment during field surveys.
