In the 1980s, many European countries conducted research on offshore wind power technology. Sweden installed the first offshore wind turbine in 1990, and Denmark built the world’s first offshore wind farm in 1991. Since the 21st century, coastal countries such as China, the United States, Japan and South Korea have actively developed offshore wind power, and the global installed capacity has increased year by year. In the past 10 years, the global cumulative installed capacity has grown rapidly, with a compound annual growth rate of 25%. The global newly installed capacity has generally shown an upward trend, reaching a peak of 21.1GW in 2021.
By the end of 2023, the global cumulative installed capacity will reach 75.2GW, of which China, the United Kingdom and Germany account for 84% of the world’s total, of which China accounts for the highest proportion of 53%. In 2023, the global new installed capacity will be 10.8GW, of which China, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom account for 90% of the world’s total, of which China accounts for the highest proportion of 65%.
Wind energy is an important part of the new energy system. As onshore wind power development approaches saturation, offshore wind power has become an important direction for the transformation of energy structure.
At Frankstar Technology, we are proud to support the offshore wind industry with a comprehensive range of high-precision ocean monitoring instruments, including met-ocean buoys, wave buoys, tide loggers, wave sensors, and more. Our solutions are engineered to perform in the most demanding marine environments, providing the critical data needed throughout every stage of a wind farm’s lifecycle.
From initial site assessment and environmental studies to foundation design, logistical planning, and ongoing operational monitoring, our equipment delivers accurate, real-time data on wind, waves, tides, and currents. This data supports:
l Wind resource evaluation and turbine siting
l Wave load calculations for structural engineering
l Tide and sea level studies for cable laying and access planning
l Operational safety and performance optimization
With years of experience in marine sensor technology and a commitment to innovation, Frankstar Technology is proud to contribute to the advancement of offshore wind energy. By providing dependable met-ocean data solutions, we help developers reduce risk, improve efficiency, and meet their sustainability goals.
